OVERSEEDING

Premium Lawns Overseeding

Tall fescue is a cool-season grass that performs well in semi-shaded or sunny areas. However, with the hot, dry Oklahoma summers and turf diseases like brown patch, fescue can thin out or even die during the summer. To maintain a thick, healthy lawn, fall overseeding is necessary to introduce new grass plants and keep your turf looking its best.

Because fescue is a bunch-type grass, it does not spread through runners or underground roots like bermudagrass and zoysiagrass. Once fescue is lost, new seedlings must be introduced. Overseeding is a cost-effective alternative to sodding, but it requires proper watering and care to ensure seed germination and healthy growth.

At Premium Lawns, we believe that properly executed overseeding produces a superior turf compared to sodding.

Our Seeding Process

Our overseeding process includes several key steps to ensure successful seed germination and establishment:

Core Aeration or Double Aeration – We aerate the soil to improve seed-to-soil contact, promoting better water absorption. In some cases, we use a slit-seeder to slice the seed directly into the soil.

Custom-Blended Seed – We apply a high-quality custom-blended seed selected for durability and performance.

Starter Fertilizer Application – We apply a starter fertilizer to encourage rapid germination and strong root development.

Raking Bare Areas – We ensure proper seed coverage by raking bare areas for optimal growth.

Watering Instructions – We provide detailed watering guidelines that must be followed carefully to achieve the best results.

Follow-Up Overseeding – About three weeks after the initial treatment, we return to overseed any thin areas for even coverage.
